If you purchase a leasehold business, you usually purchase the right to run the business from the said premises with the fixtures and fittings and everything directly pertaining to the running of the business. You do not own the walls or the building it is located in.  The freeholder will issue you a rent contract which gives you the use of his property to run your business.  In return you will have to pay him a monthly rent which will be set prior to the issue of the contract with all the conditions that apply. This contract will run for an agreed number of years and will normally include a renewal to run for a further period of the same time. You do not pay for this renewal.  Your obligations as a Leaseholder normally include the payment of the rent and taxes applied to the rent, the rubbish collection, the community fees, the water, the electricity and any expenses directly related to your business.  The local Town Hall rate is the responsibility of the freeholder.
